Couch
In this tutorial I'm going to show you how
to quickly reupholster a couch using Fill-Pattern. Here's
our beginning picture. It's a snazzy looking couch but the
color's a bit drab so we are going to fix that.

1. First we need to find a pattern. If you
have a design then good. If not then quickly make one. I
made mine out of a wallpaper design.Once you have your design
you can select the whole image then go to EDIT-DEFINE PATTERN.
2. Make a new file and make it large. Mine
is 30x30 inches at 72dpi. Now we are going to select the
PAINT BUCKET and fill the whole canvas like so.

4. Select part of or the whole pattern layer
(I only selected part) and move it to the couch file.
5. Ok here's where the fun begins. While on
the pattern layer go to EDIT-DISORT and distort the pattern
to cover the closest arm with a bit extra on all sides for
insurance. I also turn the opacity down so I can see what
the shape is. Make sure you keep the shape of the arm. So
the pattern follows the shape of the couch.

6. Using the LASSO tool I select the arm after
turning off the pattern layer like so.

7. While on the pattern layer go to SELECT-INVERSE
and hit DELETE. Then change the opacity back to 100% and
select the OVERLAY behavior. and you should have something
like this.

DAMN that arm looks good, right?
8. Now repeat those first seven steps for
every section of the couch. the back, right arm and the
seat. When doing the seat, divide it up into two sections.
The top of the seat and the front of the seat. Making sure
the pattern lines up or is close to it.

9. After all sections are done try messing
around with some lighting and atmosphere. This is my finished
product.

What's yours look like?
